"Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat in Fall Update: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans"
Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling chapter yet in the pirate multiplayer game, thanks to a slew of major content additions. From new game modes and ships to the long-awaited introduction of a Kraken and land combat, Ubisoft is poised to meet the high seas of player expectations head-on.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory, launching this fall, that promises to deliver the much-anticipated land combat feature. Since the game's initial launch last February, fans have been eager to step off their ships and engage in swordfights and firearm duels on terra firma. Season 3’s Rogue Warlord additions will allow players to explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse into what players can expect, though full details will only be revealed later this year.
While land combat is the headline act of Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft has a fleet of updates lined up for 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which sets sail today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Come summer 2025, Season 2: Oaths of War will launch with Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. Then, in winter, Season 4: Eye of the Beast will bring the legendary Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship into play.
If all this sounds enticing enough to dive in, you're in luck—Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21. During this period, players can hoist their sails and experience pirate PvP firsthand, and even purchase the game at a yet-to-be-announced reduced price.
Skull and Bones originally launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did tease record player engagement shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
