Last of Us Season 2 Gets Premiere Month, New Trailer

HBO's The Last of Us Season 2: April Premiere Confirmed, New Trailer Unveiled

Sony's CES 2025 showcase revealed a new trailer for The Last of Us season 2, confirming its April premiere on HBO. The highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed adaptation of Naughty Dog's game will delve into the events of The Last of Us Part II. While lauded alongside Arcane and Fallout as a top-tier video game adaptation, season 2 will reportedly deviate from a strict, scene-for-scene recreation of the game's sequel. Co-creator Craig Mazin hinted that Part II's narrative might span three seasons, given the seven-episode length of season 2 (compared to season 1's nine).

The brief, action-packed trailer, clocking in at just over a minute, features glimpses of key moments and characters. A standout is Kaitlyn Dever's portrayal of Abby Anderson, along with the iconic dance scene between Dina (Isabela Merced) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The trailer also showcases a new scene, an alarm sequence designed to trigger chilling memories for those familiar with the game. The trailer culminates in a red flare, solidifying the April premiere date, previously narrowed down to the Spring 2025 window (March-June). A specific release date remains unannounced.

Beyond familiar faces, the trailer has sparked speculation about new characters. While Catherine O'Hara's role remains shrouded in mystery, fans have also begun theorizing about the possible live-action debut of Jesse (Young Mazino) and the return of Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon, reprising his voice acting role from the game. Season 1 successfully introduced original characters like Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey), Perry (Jeffrey Pierce), Florence (Elaine Miles), and Marlon (Graham Greene), setting a precedent for creative expansion upon the source material.
