Rune Slayer Fishing 101
Think *Rune Slayer* isn't a true MMORPG? Think again! It has fishing, and as we all know, fishing is the definitive MMORPG feature. But jokes aside, let's dive into how to actually fish in *Rune Slayer*. We struggled with this at first, but now we're here to share the secrets of a successful fishing expedition. (Spoiler: It's not as intuitive as *Fisch*.)

Before you even think about reeling in a prize catch, you'll need to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman** (the friendly white-haired NPC near the pier where the Barracuda swim). He'll ask you to catch 5 "fish" (we'll explain the quotes later). Your reward? A handy Tackle Box.
Here's the catch (pun intended): **You need a fishing rod and bait.** Guess who conveniently sells both? Simon, of course! **Buy a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms.** We recommend at least 5 worms, but 10 is better to be safe. Important note: **You don't equip the bait.** Just keep the Worms in your inventory. Each time you catch something, a Worm will automatically disappear. And here's a crucial detail: **You seem to need at least 5 Worms in your inventory to catch anything.** We tried with only one, and nothing happened. Keep your Worms in your hotbar for easy tracking.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod.** No equipping needed; just have it in your hotbar. Your character will automatically hold it.
Hold M1 to cast your line into the water. The pier near Simon is a good starting point.
Watch your bobber. When you see one or two ripples, click M1 again to reel in your catch.
Important: This isn't foolproof. You'll often catch nothing, or sometimes even junk. The good news is that Simon counts junk as a catch (hence the "fish" quotes earlier).
Simply cast, wait for the ripples, click M1, and repeat until you've caught 5 things.
Once you have 5 catches, **talk to Simon to complete the quest.** He'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Use it to store your remaining worms and free up inventory space. That's it! Happy fishing! For more help, check out our Ultimate Beginner's Guide to *Rune Slayer*.
