Resident Evil 4 Remake Passes Major Franchise Sales Milestone

Resident Evil 4 Remake Surpasses 9 Million Copies Sold: Capcom Celebrates a Milestone

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake continues its phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold since its March 2023 launch. This impressive achievement follows the game's rapid rise to 8 million sales earlier this year, further fueled by the February 2023 release of the Gold Edition and a late 2023 iOS port.

The remake, a reimagining of the 2005 classic, follows Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a sinister cult. A significant departure from the series' survival horror origins, Resident Evil 4 embraced a more action-oriented gameplay style.

Capcom's official CapcomDev1 Twitter account celebrated the milestone with celebratory artwork depicting beloved characters like Ada, Krauser, and Saddler enjoying a game of bingo. A recent update further enhanced the experience for PS5 Pro players.

A Record-Breaking Success

According to Alex Aniel, author of the Resident Evil fan book Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4's sales are the fastest in the franchise's history. This is especially notable when compared to Resident Evil Village, which reached only 500,000 copies sold after its eighth quarter.

Anticipation Builds for Future Remakes

Given the overwhelming success of Resident Evil 4, anticipation is high for Capcom's next move. Many fans eagerly await a potential Resident Evil 5 remake, a prospect made more plausible considering the less-than-a-year gap between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, both pivotal to the overarching narrative, are also strong contenders for a modern update. Naturally, a Resident Evil 9 announcement would also be met with enthusiastic reception.
