"Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for Nintendo Switch 2 by 2025 End with Next-Gen Patch"
Rumors are swirling about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port of the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2. According to GameReactor, sources close to Rockstar Games suggest that this highly anticipated port could be released by the end of 2025. Additionally, a next-gen upgrade patch for Red Dead Redemption 2 is reportedly in the works for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, promising enhanced gameplay for current-gen systems.
While specific details remain scarce, GameReactor's sources indicate that both the Switch 2 port and the upgrade patch could be available as early as later this year. This news is echoed by Nintenduo, which reports that the Switch 2 version might hit the market within Take-Two's current fiscal year, ending on March 31, 2026. Whether the game will be available digitally or as a physical edition remains to be seen.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 was first released in 2018, it received widespread acclaim, earning a perfect 10/10 from IGN. Our review hailed it as a "masterpiece," describing it as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era." Given its success, it's no surprise that fans are excited about the possibility of it coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
In a recent Q&A session with investors following Take-Two's latest financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for the Nintendo Switch 2. He highlighted that Nintendo's support for third-party publishers has improved compared to previous platforms. Zelnick confirmed that Take-Two plans to launch four titles on the Switch 2, a larger array of releases than they've offered with any new Nintendo platform before. "Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging," Zelnick noted, "but I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform."
He further explained that while they assess each title on a case-by-case basis, they aim to be where the consumers are. Zelnick added, "We would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well." Among the confirmed titles for the Switch 2 are Civilization 7 (launching on June 5), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (specific games and release dates unclear), and Borderlands 4 (set for September 12). These choices align with Take-Two's existing portfolio on the Nintendo Switch, but Zelnick's comments suggest that other titles from their back catalog, like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2, might also make their way to the new platform.
