Ratatan, the eagerly anticipated spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, has just unveiled its official gameplay trailer, offering fans an exciting glimpse into its world. This trailer, showcased during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, was released by Ratatan Works, the game's developer, and it's packed with features and mechanics that echo the charm of its predecessor while introducing fresh elements.

Trailer Highlights Gameplay and Boss Battle

The new Ratatan gameplay trailer provides a thrilling sneak peek into the game's mechanics, featuring intense battles against a giant boss crab. The trailer emphasizes Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, seamlessly integrating rhythm game elements with side-scrolling action. One of the standout features is the online co-op mode, which supports up to 4 players, allowing for cooperative gameplay in massive melee battles with up to 100 characters.

Developed by Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and featuring music by the original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan promises to deliver an authentic experience. The game's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has successfully met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on various gaming platforms.

Closed Beta Scheduled for February 27, 2025

According to a recent update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is gearing up for a closed beta test starting on February 27, 2025. Kazuto Sakajiri, the game's producer, shared exciting updates on the game's progress, including surpassing 100,000 wishlists on Steam and receiving positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo.

While the game won't be featured at the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is focusing on refining the demo for a better presentation at the Steam Next festival in June. Sakajiri outlined what players can expect from the closed beta, starting with access to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the month-long test period. Details on code distribution, start dates, and times will be shared via Discord and X once finalized.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build as more details emerge.
