"Rambo Origin Film Announced by Sisu Director"
Rambo fans, get ready for a thrilling return to the iconic character's origins. A new prequel project titled "John Rambo" is in the works, directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his action-packed films "Sisu" and "Big Game." According to Deadline, Millennium Media is actively promoting the film at the Cannes market, an event where upcoming film projects seeking funding or distribution partners are showcased to potential investors. Millennium Media, the production company behind the 2008's "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood," as well as the Expendables and Has Fallen series, is spearheading this new venture.
While details about the plot of "John Rambo" are scarce, it is confirmed that the film will be set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the 1982 classic "First Blood." Casting has yet to be finalized, and although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.
The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, known for their work on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand in October. Given Helander's recent success with the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," which transformed the concept of John Wick into an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during the Lapland War, fans can expect a gripping and intense cinematic experience.
