Both the PS5 Pro and the Slim models offer modularity, allowing users to purchase and install a separate disc drive. This has led to significant demand, particularly in the US, where the disc drive has been scarce for months.

Despite ongoing shortages, some retailers have restocked. As of January 15th, the disc drive is available from Amazon US and PlayStation Direct for the MSRP of $79.99. A third-party seller on Walmart is also offering it, but at a 50% markup ($122) and with very limited stock.

With the disc drive still unavailable at Walmart, GameStop, and Best Buy, the shortage continues. The duration of this shortage remains uncertain.
