Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive
Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Plans, Yet
The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into its competitive esports circuit. This was revealed by Chris Brown, Director of eSports, in a recent interview. While the company continuously explores new titles for competitive play, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't on the immediate horizon. Brown humorously referenced Pokémon Sleep's unlikely competitive potential (following an April Fool's joke trailer), emphasizing that while they are always exploring options, there are currently no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket's inclusion.
Reasons for Exclusion (Speculation):
While no official reasons have been given, several fan theories exist. The game's relative youth (only four months old with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) is a significant factor. Although in-app competitive features exist, balancing issues remain a concern for players. Furthermore, Pokémon TCG Pocket's simplified mechanics, designed for a more accessible, beginner-friendly experience, differ significantly from the complexities of the original trading card game, making a direct competitive transition less straightforward.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, encompassing Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to feature prominently at the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.
Upcoming Pokémon Presents:
The upcoming Pokémon Presents livestream, scheduled for February 27, 2025, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET on YouTube and Twitch, could potentially reveal a new set for Pokémon TCG Pocket. While the event's specifics are under wraps, fans anticipate significant announcements. This event may also offer updates on other anticipated titles, including Pokémon Legends: Z-A and details about recently announced mega evolutions.
