PlayStation Plus subscribers will get five extra days for free

Sony addressed the nearly day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an unspecified "operational issue" in a social media statement. The company offered no further explanation of the cause or preventative measures.

To compensate PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony will automatically add five extra days to their subscriptions.

Gamers experienced widespread disruptions, with over one-third unable to log in and others reporting server crashes.

The outage has reignited concerns among players who oppose Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games. This policy's necessity is again called into question by this significant service interruption.

This isn't the first major PSN downtime. A massive data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. While less severe, the recent incident has left PS5 users frustrated by Sony's limited communication regarding the issue.
