Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date and New Footage Revealed

DC Studios head James Gunn has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. In an exciting tweet, Gunn shared his enthusiasm, describing the Season 2 premiere as “one of my favorite things ever.” Accompanying this announcement was a brief snippet of new footage, featuring John Cena in his iconic role, smirking at the camera amidst a fiery backdrop. In the clip, a character declares Peacemaker as “a superhero now.”

The release of Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman movie, set to hit theaters on July 11. This film marks the beginning of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU), with Peacemaker Season 2 being the third installment in this new cinematic universe, following the Creature Commandos TV series released last year and the upcoming Superman movie.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's revamped DCU aims to distance itself from the critically maligned DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some continuity will be preserved, with Peacemaker serving as a bridge between the old and new universes. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be firmly within the new DCU.

Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU are still under wraps. He confirmed that the entire **Team Peacemaker** will return with the original cast, including **John Cena** reprising his role as Peacemaker, alongside **Frank Grillo** as Rick Flag Sr., **Freddie Stroma** as Adrian Chase, and **Danielle Brooks** as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's storyline directly impacting the series.
