Onimusha: Way of the Sword New Trailer Shows Off New Gameplay, Protagonist
Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom has treated fans to fresh gameplay footage of its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, not only presented exciting gameplay but also confirmed the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
The trailer highlighted the game's dynamic sword combat and impressive boss encounters. While still over two years away, the visuals and action sequences are already highly promising.
The game will feature Musashi's renowned swordsmanship, but also promises a glimpse into his playful and mischievous personality.
Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game starring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game appearance is reportedly modeled after the late Toshiro Mifune, a legendary Japanese actor known for his samurai roles.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
