Nintendo Updates Switch Online App: Discover New Features

Author : Gabriel Update : Jun 14,2025

With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 just days away on June 5, Nintendo has taken the opportunity to refresh and rebrand its companion app. Formerly known as the Nintendo Switch Online app, it is now simply referred to as the Nintendo Switch App.

This rebranding marks a shift in how Nintendo positions its mobile integration with the console ecosystem. The term “Nintendo Switch Online” was long tied to the company’s subscription service, which includes online multiplayer features, cloud saves, and access to a curated library of classic games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Nintendo 64 eras. With the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, subscribers will also gain access to the new GameCube libraries, expanding the retro gaming experience even further.

What's New in Version 3.0.1?

The latest update—version 3.0.1—not only removes “Online” from the app’s name but also ushers in a cleaner, more intuitive interface. Key features include full support for Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and enhanced social tools such as the ability to receive GameChat invitations directly through the app. Users can now manage their friends list more efficiently, including adding new friends and receiving real-time notifications when a friend comes online.

One standout addition is the improved media management system. Players can now upload screenshots and gameplay videos directly to the app from their console’s album—an especially useful feature for those who enjoy sharing highlights or archiving memorable moments.
