First Look: Nintendo Switch 2 Cartridge Unveiled
Nintendo has provided the first clear glimpse of the Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridge ahead of its highly anticipated launch next month. The video, shared through the company’s Nintendo Today app, also highlights the official Switch 2 carry case, designed to securely hold up to six cartridges from both the original Switch and the upcoming Switch 2.
While the dimensions of the new cartridges remain unchanged from those of the original Switch, there is a notable distinction: their color. Switch 2 cartridges are distinctly red, a change that seems to apply universally rather than being exclusive to specific titles, as evidenced by the video shared by OatmealDome on X/Twitter.
Additionally, the top of the cartridge features a Switch 2 logo instead of the classic Nintendo Switch branding seen on previous models. Aside from these updates, the cartridges retain their original design, including the unpleasant coating intended to deter accidental ingestion—a feature confirmed by Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta.
Switch 2 is scheduled to release on June 5, 2025, with anticipation building for what promises to be an exciting update. In other developments, reports suggest that Samsung, Nintendo’s primary electronics partner, is already considering an OLED screen upgrade for future hardware revisions.
