Nintendo Switch 2 Accessory Prices Rise, Fans React to Increased Costs
Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order details and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console along with its accessories. While the price of the console itself remains unchanged, there have been noticeable adjustments in the cost of accessories, which might influence the purchasing decisions of early adopters.
The Nintendo Switch 2 base model is priced at $449.99, and the bundle including Mario Kart World is available for $499.99. Mario Kart World, a standout kart racing game, is priced at $79.99 when purchased separately, while Donkey Kong Bananza will cost $69.99.
However, the accessory prices have seen a broad increase. Here's a detailed breakdown:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
In their announcement on the official website, Nintendo explained that the price adjustments for Switch 2 accessories were necessitated by "changes in market conditions" since the initial announcement on April 2. Notably, the price increases for major items such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera are consistently around $5. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Dock Set experienced a $10 increase, now costing $119.99 from its previous $109.99.
Fans have expressed their concerns over the rising costs, particularly noting that a new pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers is now just $5 shy of $100. This significant price jump has left many potential buyers puzzled and reconsidering their plans.
Despite the pricing backlash, there's some relief as Nintendo has confirmed that several Switch 1 accessories will remain compatible with the Switch 2. According to the support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be wirelessly paired with the new console, although the former cannot be directly attached. Additionally, classic controllers like those from the Super Nintendo and N64 can still be used with compatible games.

Many users are actively discussing the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories and the potential of using third-party controllers. While these alternatives may not offer all the features of the Switch 2 controllers, such as the C-button or the ability to wake up the console, they present a cost-effective option for some buyers.
Nintendo also cautioned that further price adjustments could occur in the future, depending on market conditions. This notice provides a bit of reassurance for those who find the current prices steep, knowing they can still use their existing Pro controller with the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025.
