Nintendo Game Removed Amid Switch 2 Compatibility Delays
Limited Run Games has requested Nintendo to temporarily delist the Gex Trilogy from the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop until a compatibility patch becomes available.
In a social media statement, Limited Run Games explained that the anticipated patch wouldn't launch this week due to approval delays related to the recent Juneteenth holiday. As an interim measure, the publisher asked Nintendo to pull the game from sale.
Compatibility Challenges
The developer revealed experiencing backward compatibility problems with several Switch 1 titles on Switch 2. While a recent firmware update resolved most issues, the Gex Trilogy remained problematic. Limited Run subsequently developed a patch that still awaits approval.
"Since we don't have an estimated timeline for when the Switch 2 firmware might fix Gex Trilogy, we submitted our own patch solution last week," Limited Run's statement continued. "The Juneteenth holiday delayed this week's approval process, but we anticipate releasing the patch early next week."
"We've temporarily removed the game from the Switch 2 eShop while we work with Nintendo on this resolution. We appreciate players' patience during this process."
Verified Compatible Titles
The publisher advised checking these Limited Run titles currently functioning properly on Switch 2:
- Clock Tower: Rewind
- Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection
- Tomba! Special Edition
- River City Girls Zero
- A Boy and His Blob Collection
- Rocket Knight Adventures
- Shantae
- Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection
- Xtreme Sports
- Trip World DX
- Felix the Cat
- Rendering Ranger R-2: Rewind
About Gex Trilogy
This remastered collection bundles all three platforming adventures featuring the wisecracking gecko protagonist (1995's Gex, 1998's Enter the Gecko, and 1999's Deep Cover Gecko). Released June 16 across modern platforms, it marks the series' first significant re-release since Square Enix shelved the franchise. Originally developed for 3DO, Gex later appeared on PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units since launch, though third-party game sales present a mixed performance picture according to recent market analysis.
