NieR: Automata offers more than just intense android-machine warfare. For a more peaceful pastime, try fishing! This optional activity can be a surprisingly effective way to earn money and acquire rare items without the risk of combat. This guide explains how to fish and what rewards await.

How to Fish

Fishing is simple and can be done in almost any body of water, even shallow puddles! Just stand still in the water; a fishing prompt will appear above your character. Hold the button to cast your Pod:

• PlayStation: O
• Xbox: B
• PC: Enter

Once cast, wait for the Pod to be fully submerged with a distinct "plop." Quickly press the same button again to reel in your catch. React too slowly, and the fish gets away! You can cast repeatedly with no limitations.

A helpful plug-in chip displays a fishing icon in the top right corner when you're near fishable water.

Fishing Rewards

Most fish and junk items found while fishing sell for a decent price, providing a safe and efficient early-game money-making method. This is especially useful for upgrading your plug-in chip capacity. Fishing in sewers even offers a chance to obtain the powerful Iron Pipe weapon (though luck is involved).
