MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus following its fifth and final season. The game's official channels confirmed the shutdown date of May 30, 2025.

Season 5: A Final Curtain Call

Player First Games and Warner Bros. stated that Season 5, commencing February 4, 2025, will be the game's last content update. This season will introduce Aquaman and Lola Bunny as playable characters, obtainable through gameplay. Following Season 5's conclusion, MultiVersus will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). The reasons for the shutdown remain unannounced.

Offline Play: A Lasting Legacy

To ensure continued enjoyment, players can access a local gameplay mode (solo or with up to three friends) after the online servers close. Downloading the latest version between February 4th and May 30th is crucial to enable this offline functionality. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

In-game purchases were halted on January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5 ends.

A Brief History and Challenges

Launched in July 2022 as a free-to-play fighting game, MultiVersus initially gained traction. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced new features, but persistent technical issues, frequent disconnections, and player concerns regarding microtransactions ultimately impacted its long-term viability. Reported player count drops further contributed to the decision.

The game will conclude its run with 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. MultiVersus remains available for download until May 30, 2025, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
