MultiVersus Nears Shutdown: Warner Bros. Game Loses 99% of Players

If Season 5 of MultiVersus doesn't perform well, it could potentially mark the end of the game. According to AusilMV, a well-known insider for game leaks, a credible source has indicated that Season 5 represents a final effort to revive the game's fortunes. While this remains a rumor, the situation is concerning.

At its launch in 2022, MultiVersus saw tremendous success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the player base quickly dwindled by 99%, prompting Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it as an "open beta test." Despite returning with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is set to begin in early February and may be the last opportunity for the developers to rekindle player interest. This relaunch follows the game's initial release in 2022, which was later referred to as a "beta" by the developers. Although the game was warmly received upon its debut, the decision to temporarily shut it down in June 2023, announced in March of that year, left many players, particularly those who purchased the premium edition to support the developers, feeling disappointed.
