Metaphor: ReFantazio has a chance to become a series - game director

Hashino, when discussing future projects, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.

Regarding Metaphor: ReFantazio, Hashino confirmed there are no immediate plans for a sequel. His focus remains on completing the current project, despite its original conception as a potential third JRPG series alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. The director aims for Metaphor: ReFantazio to become a flagship title for Atlus.

While a sequel is currently off the table, the team is already working on their next game, which will almost certainly not be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is being considered. Metaphor: ReFantazio has already achieved significant success, boasting the highest concurrent player count for an Atlus game launch to date, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
