Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation

Simu Liu, the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is spearheading efforts to resurrect the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively working with rights holders to bring the game to the big screen.

The Sleeping Dogs movie, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, vanished from development a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, money, and ultimately, the unpredictable nature of Hollywood. His statement seemed to mark the definitive end of the project.

However, Liu's social media intervention has reignited hope for fans. While the success of his efforts remains uncertain, his involvement offers a surprising second chance for this highly anticipated adaptation.

The original Sleeping Dogs video game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, garnered critical acclaim, receiving an 8/10 rating from IGN. The game follows Detective Wei Shen as he undertakes an undercover operation within Hong Kong's Triad gangs. Despite its popularity and positive reception, no sequels were ever produced.
