However, eagle-eyed fans quickly noted the absence of several key Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stars from the announced lineup. Notably absent are Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chris Evans, despite reports suggesting his potential return in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Evans later refuted these claims. Other missing characters include the Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Rhodey, and from the X-Men side, Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey.

The fan community expressed their disappointment over the missing favorites, but hope remains. Following the announcement, Robert Downey Jr., who transitions from Iron Man to Doctor Doom, teased on Instagram that more surprises are on the horizon. He stated, "That's what u call a deep bench of talent. Actually it's more like a row, but an extra long one... That must be it.. right?"

Marvel echoed this sentiment in the comments, suggesting, "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, directing the film, added to the anticipation with the cryptic message, "It's time…"

With these teasers, it's clear that Marvel has more cast announcements in store for Avengers: Doomsday. The big question remains: who else could join the fray? We invite you to share your thoughts and predictions in the comments section.

Earlier this month, the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning," setting the stage for the future of the MCU in Phase 7. Joe Russo elaborated, "The only thing I'll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they're the heroes of their own stories. That's when they become three-dimensional and they become more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That's where a lot of our focus is going."

Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following closely on May 2027. Before these major releases, fans can look forward to Thunderbolts* in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and the kickoff of Phase 6 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.

Additionally, Marvel Studios has added three untitled projects to its 2028 release schedule on February 18, May 5, and November 10, fueling speculation that one of these could be the long-awaited X-Men film.
