Marvel Rivals Players Risk Bans

Summary

  • NetEase Games has warned that modding Marvel Rivals can lead to account bans, as it violates the game's terms of service.
  • Season 1 introduced a hidden anti-modding measure, but modders quickly found workarounds.
  • It remains unclear if NetEase Games has issued any bans specifically for modding Marvel Rivals.

NetEase Games, the developer and publisher behind the popular team shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued a stern warning to players: continue to mod the game at your own peril. The company has made it clear that any form of modification, whether it's cosmetic hero mods or gameplay-altering add-ons, breaches the game's terms of service and could result in permanent bans.

This announcement follows the launch of Marvel Rivals Season 1, which not only brought hero balance changes but also introduced two new characters from the Fantastic Four, Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic, to the game's roster. Fans can look forward to the addition of Human Torch and The Thing in upcoming updates. Since its debut in December 2024, Marvel Rivals has captured the hearts of both Marvel Comics enthusiasts and team shooter aficionados alike. The game's popularity has even earned it a nomination for Online Game of the Year at the 2025 DICE Awards, which will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on February 13.

Despite NetEase Games' efforts to curb modding in Season 1, some players have managed to bypass these restrictions. A notable example is an add-on available on Nexus Mods that was designed to circumvent a new deterrent system which checks asset hashes for modifications. The mod's creator, known as Prafit, has openly acknowledged the risks associated with using their mod, recommending it only for users with high-end PCs. Following this, another mod surfaced on social media, allowing players to transform Mister Fantastic into Luffy from One Piece, due to their similar stretchy powers. This mod, crafted by Ercuallo, gained attention through a video shared by RivalsLeaks on Twitter.

Marvel Rivals Warns Users to Stop Modding or Risk Bans

While it's not yet confirmed if NetEase Games has banned any players for modding, the company has firmly stated that such actions violate the game's terms of service. Some mods, including one featuring US President-elect Donald Trump, have been removed from Nexus Mods, but Prafit's Season 1 workaround remains available, boasting over 500 downloads at the time of this report.

Marvel Rivals has faced challenges with false bans since its launch, but the message from NetEase Games regarding the risks of modding is unambiguous. As the situation develops, the community will be watching closely to see how NetEase Games responds to ongoing modding attempts.
