Marvel Rivals Developer Says There's Currently No Plan for a PvE Mode

Author : Sebastian Update : Apr 19,2025

Even though Marvel Rivals is a fresh face in the gaming world, the community is buzzing with excitement over potential new features. Recent whispers about a possible PvE boss fight have fueled speculation that a full-fledged PvE mode might be on the horizon. However, NetEase recently put those rumors to rest, stating that they currently have no plans for a PvE mode...yet.

During the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a PvE mode. Here's what Wu had to say:

"For now, we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we find that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough, fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience."

Following Wu's statement, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in, asking if I would like to see a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals. Upon expressing my interest, Wu elaborated:

"Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be totally a different distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."

It seems there are no solid plans for a PvE mode at the moment, but Wu's comments suggest that NetEase is exploring the idea of a "lighter" game mode, possibly something like a one-off event. For now, NetEase is keeping further details under wraps.

Marvel Rivals continues to evolve with monthly updates, introducing new characters every month and a half. The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the fray on February 21. We also discussed with Wu and Koo the potential for a Nintendo Switch 2 release for Marvel Rivals, which you can read about here. Additionally, we addressed the issue of whether NetEase might be teasing dataminers with fake hero "leaks" in the game's code.
