Mark Hamill Lands BAFTA Giggle with Demi Moore Nod
Star Wars icon Mark Hamill experienced an unexpected wardrobe mishap at the 2025 BAFTAs this year – with the actor later revealing that fellow Hollywood legend Demi Moore gave him a supportive thumbs-up during the incident.
During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hamill described the pants malfunction as "the ultimate actor's nightmare."
He explained that his trousers, which began slipping down while he was presenting the award for Best Film to Conclave, had initially seemed fine before the ceremony.
"I tried those pants on twice – once at home in California where they fit fine, just slightly snug," Hamill recalled while promoting Mike Flanagan's new film The Life of Chuck. "I asked my stylist to let them out just a bit."
The situation took a turn in London just before the ceremony. "Twenty minutes before leaving, we realized the pants had been let out too much," Hamill continued. "Our dresser Mary secured them with a safety pin – I thought we'd fixed the problem."
As any performer knows, theater superstitions often prove true. "The moment I started walking to the podium, I felt the pin give way," Hamill told Colbert. "With each step, they slid further down – by the time I reached the podium, they were practically at my knees!"
When Hamill scanned the audience for his wife, he instead made eye contact with Moore. After silently mouthing "Did you see my pants fall down?", he received her enthusiastic thumbs-up and beaming smile in response.
Channeling Jedi-like composure, Hamill maintained his professionalism. "I focused intensely, trying to mentally project 'You didn't see anything' to the audience," the actor joked on the late-night show. "I stuck strictly to the teleprompter and refused to acknowledge it – no jokes, no drawing attention."

Hamill later learned from the BAFTA director that while the podium blocked the front view, side audience members had a clear view of his trousers around his knees. During his Colbert appearance, the actor jokingly assured viewers: "Rest assured, my pants are very secure tonight."
Fans hoping to see Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker's Force ghost may be disappointed. The legendary actor has confirmed he won't return to the Star Wars universe, believing the franchise should focus on new characters rather than legacy cameos.
