Mario Kart World's Free Roam: An Open World Adventure with Friends
During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we received an exciting update on the game's innovative Free Roam mode. This mode introduces a multiplayer aspect that promises to be highly engaging, offering players a chance to explore the expansive world of Mario Kart World in a new way.
Although we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive look at Free Roam mode. This new feature allows players to freely navigate the game's vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous Mario Kart games where race tracks are isolated and only accessible during races, Mario Kart World integrates them into an open world, enabling players to drive between tracks in specific game modes and explore the areas in between. In Free Roam mode, when you're not focused on racing, you can embark on a mini-adventure. The world is dotted with hidden collectibles like coins and ? panels, although the exact benefits of collecting these items remain a mystery for now. Additionally, P-Switches are scattered throughout, triggering small challenges such as gathering blue coins when activated.
Another highlight of Free Roam mode is the ability to activate Photo Mode at any time, allowing you to capture memorable moments of your racers in various poses and angles. Free Roam is not limited to solo play; you can join friends to roam around, take photos, tackle challenges, or simply enjoy each other's company. The mode supports up to four players on the same system via split-screen, and up to eight players in total through local wireless play, with two players per system.
Today's Mario Kart World Direct also unveiled other exciting details, including new characters, courses, and modes. You can find all the announcements and updates right here.
