Lunar Remastered Collection Release Date Announced

The highly anticipated Lunar Remastered Collection arrives April 18th! This duology, encompassing the first two Lunar games, will launch on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with full compatibility for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Physical copies will be available in select North American and European retailers.

This remaster, a collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment, boasts updated visuals, a re-recorded soundtrack, and numerous quality-of-life improvements. These enhancements include fully voiced dialogue in English and Japanese, with added French and German subtitles. Gameplay is modernized with a combat speed-up feature and an auto-battle option for streamlined party management. For purists, a classic mode faithfully recreates the original PS1-era aesthetic.

The collection also features widescreen support, revamped pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. The inclusion of these modern conveniences, such as accelerated combat, echoes similar updates in other recent JRPG remasters like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster.

Originally announced during a 2024 Sony State of Play, the Lunar Remastered Collection is a welcome return for fans of this beloved Sega CD and Saturn RPG series. While its commercial success remains to be seen, the positive reception of the Grandia HD Collection, a previous collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment, suggests a promising outlook. The Lunar Remastered Collection promises a nostalgic yet modernized experience for both longtime fans and new players alike.
