How Different are the Extended Editions from the Originals?

The debate between the theatrical and extended editions has been ongoing since The Lord of the Rings movies became available on home video. Due to time constraints in theaters, the original releases were shorter, yet still over two hours each. Some prefer the tighter pacing and action focus of these theatrical cuts. However, the extended editions offer much more content, including additional scenes, longer sequences, and context that enhances the viewer's understanding of the story. The main difference is length: The Fellowship of the Ring extended edition is about 30 minutes longer, The Two Towers adds about 45 minutes, and The Return of the King includes nearly an hour of extra footage. If you're willing to spend more time in Middle Earth, the extended editions are well worth it.
