Krafton Considers Renaming Dark & Darker Mobile

Author : Emily Update : Apr 09,2025

It appears that Dark and Darker Mobile, the eagerly awaited smartphone version of the popular hack 'n slash extraction dungeon crawler, might be undergoing a significant transformation. Recent reports suggest that Krafton is not only considering a name change but is also terminating its agreement with Ironmace Studio.

This development couldn't come at a worse time for Ironmace, as they've just been mandated to pay $6 million in damages to Nexon following a lawsuit. The core of the lawsuit revolves around Nexon's claim that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized trade secrets to create Dark and Darker, which was allegedly based on a cancelled project known as P3.

Despite Krafton's assertion that the name change is unrelated to the lawsuit ruling, they have also announced the termination of their global licensing agreement with Ironmace. This means that Dark and Darker Mobile (or whatever its new name may be) will proceed as a completely standalone release.

ytDarkest of dungeonsThe irony in this situation is palpable, especially since Ironmace initially filed a lawsuit against Nexon for copyright infringement. Now, even after ending their partnership, Krafton seems poised to rebrand and continue with the project. This move signals that the genre's floodgates are now open, regardless of Nexon's actions against their new adversary.

For fans eagerly awaiting Dark and Darker Mobile, this isn't necessarily bad news. Krafton has committed to adhering to the previously announced global release schedule. However, should any changes occur or if there are further developments in this saga, we will keep you informed.

We remain hopeful that the full launch of Dark and Darker Mobile will uphold the high standards we celebrated in our review.
