A Knight of Decay: Xbox Brings Avowed’s Plague to London

A towering statue of a decayed knight, his armor corroded and adorned with eerie, real-life mushrooms, has emerged in London, serving as a haunting reminder of the disease ravaging the world of Avowed. This installation, crafted by Xbox, functions both as an art piece and a warning, enveloping passersby in the grim reality of the game's Dreamscourge infection. Complementing the statue, nearby posters promoting the game on Xbox Series X|S transform an ordinary street into a portal to Avowed’s world.

To provide insight into the creation of this foreboding installation, Xbox has released an official video on YouTube, allowing fans to delve deeper into the making of this distinctive promotional effort.

In parallel, Avowed has received widespread acclaim from Steam users, with 81% of Deluxe Edition players recommending it before its launch. This enthusiastic response sets high expectations as the Standard Edition becomes available today.

Gaming industry veteran Jason Schreier has shared his thoughts on Avowed, expressing his excitement for its world design, storytelling, and combat, but particularly praising its exploration:

"Avowed has me hooked. Obsidian’s storytelling and combat were expectedly strong, but it’s the world’s design that stands out. Every pathway leads somewhere, every rooftop is accessible, and there’s always a hidden detail waiting to be found. Even after 40 hours, I keep coming back."

However, Schreier also highlighted a divide between critics and players, drawing parallels to Fallout: New Vegas:

"Some of the reviews surprise me. It’s the same situation as Fallout: New Vegas—critics were split, but players turned it into a legend. Avowed could follow a similar trajectory."

While Fallout: New Vegas initially received a score of 83 on Metacritic, it later ascended to become an undisputed classic. Could Avowed be on the same path toward RPG greatness?
