Jon Bernthal's Punisher Returns in Marvel Special Post-Daredevil: Born Again

Author : Aurora Update : Apr 19,2025

Jon Bernthal's portrayal of The Punisher is set to make a thrilling return following the first season of *Daredevil: Born Again*. In an exciting twist, Bernthal will not only reprise his role but will also co-write a Marvel special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, the acclaimed director of *We Own This City*. This special, reminiscent of the style seen in the *Guardians of the Galaxy* series, promises to deliver a powerful and emotionally charged narrative centered around Frank Castle.

"It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story," Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, enthused to Entertainment Weekly. "It's so exciting."

The announcement of the Punisher one-shot coincides with Marvel Television's plans to revive the Defenders on Disney+. This gritty street-level superhero team, featuring Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, was previously showcased on Netflix before its episodes were relocated to Disney+ and integrated into the MCU canon.

Brad Winderbaum expressed enthusiasm about the creative possibilities, noting the challenges and excitement of translating comic book storytelling into a television format. "Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television," he told Entertainment Weekly. "But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."

Set to premiere on March 4, *Daredevil: Born Again* picks up from where the Netflix series left off, bringing back fan-favorite characters including The Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin. The new season introduces a chilling adversary, the artistically inclined serial killer Muse, adding another layer of intensity to the ongoing saga.
