Joker Studio Unveils Mobile RPG: Sea of Remnants

NetEase Games has unveiled an ambitious new RPG titled Sea of Remnants, set to launch in 2026 for PS5, PC, and mobile platforms. Developed by Joker Studio—the creative force behind Identity V—and published by NetEase, the game promises a rich blend of exploration, turn-based combat, and deep storytelling.

What’s the Story?

In Sea of Remnants, players take on the role of a puppetfolk sailor navigating a mysterious world shaped by memory and loss. You’ll recruit over 300 unique companions, train them for battle, and customize your ship using modular components. The gameplay loop centers around exploration, survival, and tactical turn-based combat across an expansive open world designed primarily for single-player immersion.

The narrative dives into themes of memory and identity. Sailors who venture into the enigmatic Sea of Remnants risk losing their most valuable skills—but still return, drawn back by forces unknown. This sea is not just water; it's a living tapestry woven from memories, both yours and those of forgotten captains who came before.

At the heart of your journey lies Orbtopia, a bustling pirate city where you can dock your ship. With its lively streets filled with the scent of frying oil and alleyways teeming with roosters and cats, Orbtopia offers a vibrant hub that evolves based on your choices and interactions.

Environmental challenges add another layer of depth. Real-time weather shifts can transform calm seas into raging storms, while whirlpools distort the map and leviathans descend from the clouds. From fiery volcanic islands to eerie haunted ruins, every voyage tests your survival instincts.

Free-to-Play on Mobile

Sea of Remnants will be available as a free-to-play title on mobile devices, though no gacha mechanics have been officially announced. Given the game’s large companion roster, modular systems, and live service aspirations, however, some form of loot-based or progression-supporting mechanics may emerge in the future.

From the early footage and art direction, the developers have clearly captured the visual imagination of the gaming community. The aesthetic blends animated art styles with comic book outlines, graffiti-inspired effects, and surreal glitches, creating a world that feels both fresh and immersive.
