Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to make his mark in the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) with his portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. This film marks the second entry in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, which is scheduled to premiere this summer.
Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the planet Czarnia, a world he is the last survivor of, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Momoa has expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating that Lobo is his favorite comic book character and highlighting the aesthetic similarities between himself and the character.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans with a glimpse of what to expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He expressed his nervousness and excitement about the role, emphasizing the close resemblance to the comic book character and hinting at the character's rough and gruff nature. Momoa also mentioned the iconic bike, suggesting it will be a highlight. However, he confirmed that Lobo's screen time will be limited, as the film primarily focuses on Supergirl.
James Gunn, co-chief of DC, shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl in January, though it revealed little. Gunn announced on Bluesky that production had begun on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The film draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows the story of an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeking revenge for her father's murder with Supergirl's help.
The cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, alongside Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Following Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the DCU's next release will be the Clayface movie in September 2026, continuing the expansion of this new cinematic universe.
