Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower Than Global Model
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be released with different pricing strategies across the globe. In Japan, the console will be available at a notably lower price than its global counterpart. This pricing variation is due to the significant difference between the Japanese yen and the US dollar, which impacts the cost of goods for tourists in Japan.
Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions
The Nintendo Switch 2 will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system, exclusive to Japan, and a Multi-Language System available worldwide. The Japanese version will be priced at approximately $330, while the Multi-Language System version will cost $449.99—a difference of over $100. This price gap is influenced by the current exchange rate dynamics.
Residents in Japan can opt for the Multi-Language System if they prefer, but the Japanese-language version is exclusively sold within Japan. This version is restricted to Nintendo Accounts set to the Japan region and supports only the Japanese language. Additionally, the software available on the Nintendo eShop for this version will be limited to titles offered in the Japanese region.
For fans outside Japan or those who require multiple language support, Nintendo recommends purchasing the Multi-Language System version. Further details about this version will be disclosed on April 4.
Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store
To acquire the Nintendo Switch 2, customers will need to participate in a lottery system through the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, various retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries on April 24, depending on stock availability. To enter the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- By February 28, 2025, have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software (excluding demo and free software).
- Have been subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for a cumulative period of at least one year and maintain an active subscription at the time of application.
More detailed information regarding the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
