Gunn Teases Major Cameo in Peacemaker S2 Finale

DCU head James Gunn has hinted at a major cameo appearing toward the finale of Peacemaker Season 2 – though he remained coy about whether it's a character from the upcoming Superman film or another DCU figure.

The Superman movie releasing this summer chronologically precedes Peacemaker Season 2, which debuts on HBO Max (yes, the platform has reverted to its original name) on August 21, 2025. Supergirl follows on June 26, 2026, though Lanterns' release schedule remains unconfirmed – both properties are set after the events of Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.

Earlier this month, Max unveiled a new Peacemaker Season 2 trailer featuring Superman-associated characters Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner vetting Peacemaker for team membership – an interview that goes spectacularly poorly.

Gunn told Entertainment Weekly that Peacemaker Season 2 directly ties into Superman and the broader DCU narrative: "We see more about the Quantum Unfolding Chamber (QUC) technology featured in Superman. The QUC becomes central to Peacemaker Season 2's plot."

"Several Superman cast members appear throughout the season," Gunn revealed, "along with surprise appearances from other DCU characters. There might be one particularly massive cameo toward the season's conclusion."

While confirming Peacemaker Season 2 occurs several years after Season 1, Gunn acknowledged DCU's flexible timeline: "After my Marvel experience, I understand how challenging strict continuity can be. We're keeping the exact timeframe intentionally vague."

With numerous characters overlapping across Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, and Lanterns, questions arise about DCU's timeline structure. Unlike Marvel's Disney+ chronological catalog, Gunn confirmed DCU projects will initially release in production order, though some may contain flashbacks.

"For now, the timeline follows release sequence," Gunn stated on social media, listing "Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, and Supergirl" as the current roadmap.

Other confirmed DCU projects include Clayface (September 2026), though The Authority faces development hurdles. Gunn noted Waller – a Peacemaker spinoff – encountered "several setbacks," while Booster Gold progresses smoothly and Paradise Lost remains "a priority in active development."

Regarding Superman's crowded cast – featuring everything from Mister Terrific to Ultraman – Gunn faces the challenge of balancing numerous characters while establishing DCU's new direction.
