Universal Pictures has unveiled the first look at Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as the legendary Odysseus. Following the phenomenal success of 2023's Oppenheimer, Nolan's new project reimagines the classic Ancient Greek epic poem, originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. The film is slated for release on July 17, 2026.

The official synopsis describes The Odyssey as a mythic action epic, filmed globally using cutting-edge IMAX film technology. This marks the first time Homer's foundational tale will grace IMAX screens.

The Odyssey chronicles Odysseus's decade-long odyssey—a perilous journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. While Universal remains tight-lipped on further details, reports suggest an impressive ensemble cast.

Matt Damon, reuniting with Universal after his Oppenheimer success (which garnered seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director), was reportedly the first actor in talks for the project. He may be joined by a stellar lineup including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
