IDW's Godzilla vs. LA Aids Wildfire Relief

Godzilla, known for his destructive rampages in Tokyo, takes his chaos to the United States in IDW Publishing and Toho's new series of standalone specials, "Godzilla vs. America." The series kicked off with Godzilla vs. Chicago #1 and continues with Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 in April, featuring four thrilling stories of Godzilla's assault on the City of Angels. The creative team behind this issue includes Gabriel Hardman, J. Gonzo, Dave Baker, and Nicole Goux, bringing their unique visions to life.

Some might view the timing of Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 as insensitive, given the recent wildfires affecting Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. IDW acknowledges the unfortunate coincidence, as the issue has been in development since last July. In response, the company has decided to donate all proceeds from Godzilla vs. Los Angeles to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), which will aid bookstores and comic shops impacted by the fires.

IDW released a letter to its retailers and readers, emphasizing their commitment to the community and explaining their decision to support Binc during these challenging times. The letter underscores the series' thematic exploration of human resilience in the face of natural and man-made disasters, which aligns with the broader narrative of the Godzilla franchise.

Associate editor Nicolas Niño, a Los Angeles native, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the involvement of local talent and the unique stories, such as Godzilla battling giant lowrider mechs and navigating the city's subway system. He emphasized the theme of Angelenos uniting against a force of nature, celebrating the city's resilience amidst a challenging year.
