Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release

Author : Michael Update : May 05,2025

Hot on the heels of Microsoft’s casual mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong in an official Xbox post, recent backend changes to the game’s Steam listing have sparked speculation that a re-reveal and potential release may be imminent.

As observed across various social media platforms, including Reddit and Discord, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated on March 24. According to SteamDB, these updates included an opt-in for Hollow Knight: Silksong on GeForce Now, Nvidia’s video game streaming platform, along with changed assets. Notably, the legal lines on the Steam store page now list Hollow Knight as copyright Team Cherry 2025, instead of 2019.

These changes suggest that something related to Hollow Knight: Silksong could happen soon, possibly pointing to a 2025 release. With Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans might not have to wait long to learn more.

PlayIt's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Since then, there have been occasional updates, but also long periods of silence from the developers at Team Cherry.

January was particularly active for eager Hollow Knight fans, with cryptic X/Twitter posts from a developer fueling speculation about a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct, and possibly even a release as a timed exclusive on Nintendo’s next-generation console.

It's important to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, Team Cherry confirmed the initial launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, it's one of the most anticipated games for Game Pass, following Microsoft’s agreement with Team Cherry to make Silksong available on its subscription service from day one.

However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay for Hollow Knight: Silksong beyond the first half of 2023, promising more details as the game approached its release date. At the time, Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing lead, Matthew Griffin, stated: “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. In IGN’s review of Hollow Knight, we noted: "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight.”
