How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The Hermit quest becomes available as you progress through quests for the blacksmith Radovan in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. After successfully locating the lost cart, report back to Radovan. He'll express his desire to forge a sword as a wedding gift, thus initiating the Hermit questline. Before you can meet the hermit, you'll need to gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

Start by visiting the tavern in Troskowitz and conversing with Innkeeper Betty, making sure to explore all dialogue options. To gather more insights, speak with other villagers. In my experience, conversations with the alehouse maid and the general trader were particularly informative.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Next, locate Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have seen the apparition. You can either offer her a small sum of Groschen or attempt to pass a dialogue check to extract the information you need.

Then, head to Apollonia and engage with Stanislav. Again, you'll need to pass a dialogue check or pay with Groschen to obtain the necessary details.

Gather Evidence

Armed with the information, it's time to find solid evidence. Go to the cross mentioned by Gerda and dig the grave to uncover Groschen and several documents and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Remember, you'll need a spade for this task, which can be purchased from the general trader in Troskowitz or found for free in cemeteries near settlements.

After reading the documents, follow the quest marker to Apollonia to discover a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Inspect the horse to gather your next clue, preparing you to confront the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Head to the hermit's hut and initiate a conversation. Without evidence, the hermit will remain silent, but with your findings, he should be more forthcoming.

Choose the following dialogue options:

  • "You're suspicious."
  • Exhaust all dialogue options about the clues and evidence.
  • "Out with it!"

The hermit will reveal that he is not Ambrose but Konrad. Before surrendering the sword, Konrad asks you to deliver a cross to a widow named Margaret.

Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to meet Margaret and give her the cross. This action will trigger the Sinful Soul quest, which you can complete immediately by assisting her in digging Ambrose's grave. This step is optional; you can choose to return to Konrad directly.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter a group of Crusaders. You can either aid them in killing Konrad or assist Konrad in escaping.

Sneak to the hermit's hut and inform Konrad that you've completed the task. Ask him about the sword's location. At this juncture, you can decide to help Konrad or kill him. I chose to kill Konrad as confronting the Crusaders is tough, whereas battling Konrad is easier, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders' assistance.

After defeating him, speak with the Crusaders and offer to return the documents for a small reward of Groschen.

Get the Hermit's Sword

Finally, travel north of the hermit's hut to find two intertwined oak trees. The hermit's sword will be embedded in the ground there. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to successfully conclude the Hermit quest.

And that's how you can obtain the hermit's sword and complete the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more tips, including the best perks to acquire first and all romance options, be sure to check out The Escapist.
