This news is a treat for collectors of the illustrated editions. It has been five years since the last illustrated edition, A Storm of Swords, was released back in November 2020. In addition to the captivating illustrations, this new edition will feature a forward by Joe Abercrombie. Martin has promised to share some of the interior illustrations later this spring, building anticipation ahead of the book's release. For those new to collecting the series, the first three illustrated editions of A Song of Ice and Fire are already available.

What About The Winds of Winter?
For those eagerly awaiting The Winds of Winter, the wait may continue for some time. In a December 2024 interview, Martin hinted at the possibility that he might not complete the book in his lifetime, following his November 2023 update where he mentioned having written 1,100 pages. While this news might be disheartening for fans who have waited nearly 14 years, there remains hope that the series could be completed by someone else. With the fourth illustrated edition now on the horizon, it seems likely that the first five special editions will be finished before The Winds of Winter.
