New Game from Shift Up Soars in Popularity
Shift Up, the developer behind Stellar Blade, has announced a record-breaking year, with Stellar Blade generating $43 million in royalties. The PC version is projected to surpass the PlayStation 5 sales figures.
Game World Observer reported that Shift Up's 2024 financial report showed a 30.4% year-over-year revenue increase, reaching $151.4 million. A significant portion, $43.2 million, stemmed directly from Stellar Blade royalties.
The success shows no signs of waning. Shift Up anticipates stronger PC sales than the console version, particularly within the Asian gaming market. A new title, Project Witches, is slated for a first-half 2025 reveal, though it's not the highly anticipated Stellar Blade sequel.
Project Witches was unveiled in 2024, shortly after Stellar Blade's PS5 launch, preempting significant demand for a direct follow-up. However, Shift Up hasn't ruled out developing a Stellar Blade sequel.
Stellar Blade, a fast-paced action RPG, casts players as Eve, battling unknown invaders to reclaim Earth. While IGN awarded it a 7/10, praising its action elements, the review criticized its characters, narrative, and RPG mechanics. Despite this, the game achieved impressive sales, exceeding one million copies.
"Stellar Blade excels in core action game aspects, but suffers from underwhelming characters, a weak story, and frustrating RPG mechanics, preventing it from reaching the genre's top tier," the IGN review stated.
