Firaxis to Revamp Civilization 7 Following Criticism

After a disappointing launch, the developers of Civilization 7 have committed to enhancing the game, focusing on interface usability and gameplay mechanics. Firaxis Games has pinpointed the issues and is actively developing solutions to address them.

Currently, the game holds a 47% positive rating on Steam, with player feedback primarily centered around the simplified interface, missing features, and a lack of content rather than the core mechanics. In response, Firaxis has prioritized interface improvements, promising to enhance map readability, refine menus, and make the overall interface more intuitive and user-friendly.

The developers plan to introduce several new features:

  • The ability to create teams in multiplayer mode
  • New types of maps to explore
  • Customization options, including the ability to rename religions and cities

An upcoming update, version 1.1.0, will include balance adjustments and further enhancements, set to be released in March. The full release of Civilization 7 is scheduled for February 11.

Many reviewers believe the game was released prematurely and requires substantial improvements. The $70 price point has been a focal point of criticism, as players feel it does not currently reflect the game's quality. Fans of the series are hopeful that the developers will take their feedback seriously and release updates that effectively address these concerns.

Enthusiasts of the Civilization franchise are eager for the seventh installment to uphold the series' tradition of excellence and meticulous attention to detail. However, they acknowledge that the game is not yet at that level.
