Enhanced Joy-Con Features Revealed for Next-Gen Nintendo Switch
Circumstantial Evidence Suggests Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Mice
Recent findings suggest the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might offer an unconventional feature: mouse functionality. While the widespread adoption by game developers remains uncertain, this aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.
The evidence comes from Famiboards user LiC, who analyzed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data, previously a source of numerous Switch 2 rumors, revealed mentions of polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" – the typical bottom component of a computer mouse – intended for "game console handles."
Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were identified. These numbers haven't been found in public databases, suggesting they are new, unreleased products. The listed size, 90 x 90mm, is large enough to potentially cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, though trimming would likely be necessary.
This isn't unprecedented in the handheld gaming world. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features a mouse mode for its right controller when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic housing to improve surface glide. The Legion GO also boasts magnetic rails for controller attachment, a feature also rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity further fuels speculation about the Switch 2's design and potential capabilities.
