Dune: Awakening Tops Steam Charts as Concurrent Players Soar
Early access for Dune: Awakening began on June 5, but the survival MMO officially launched for all players on June 10 - and immediately made an impact. Within hours of release, Funcom's ambitious project attracted over 142,000 concurrent Steam players (peaking at exactly 142,050).
This impressive debut secured Dune: Awakening the ninth spot among Steam's most-played games in its first 24 hours. With the full launch just beginning and the first weekend approaching, player counts are expected to rise significantly, potentially setting new concurrent records by Saturday or Sunday.
Console Version Delayed Until 2026
Prior to launch, Funcom announced that console players won't experience Arrakis until "sometime in 2026." Meanwhile, PC players have already discovered creative gameplay elements, including unofficial sandworm riding techniques despite the feature not being officially implemented.
Our Ongoing Review
Our review team continues evaluating Dune: Awakening, noting some underwhelming gunplay mechanics. After 35+ hours of gameplay, our reviewer reports: "I'm still discovering new zones, barely scratching the surface of the main narrative, and have only experienced limited PvP encounters. With so much content remaining, expect a comprehensive update later this week as we progress toward endgame."
