Digimon Alysion, the Pokemon TCG Pocket Competitor, May Include a Story Mode
At DIGIMON CON 2025, Bandai Namco unveiled an exciting addition to the Digimon universe with the announcement of Digimon Alysion, a new mobile trading card game (TCG) now in development. This move aims to tap into the growing mobile gaming market, following the footsteps of successful titles like Pokémon TCG Pocket and Marvel Snap. Digimon Alysion promises to be a free-to-play experience where players can collect cards featuring various Digimon and franchise characters, construct their decks, and engage in battles with other players. What sets Digimon Alysion apart is its planned inclusion of an in-depth story mode, offering players a rich narrative experience alongside traditional and competitive gameplay options.
The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer that provided a glimpse into the gameplay and introduced an all-female cast speculated to be part of the story mode. The new characters include Kanata Hondo, Futre, and Valner Dragnogh, along with a new Digimon named Gemmon. While no specific release date was announced, Bandai Namco mentioned an upcoming closed beta test, with more details to follow.
In addition to Digimon Alysion, DIGIMON CON 2025 shed more light on Digimon Story: Time Stranger. Producer Ryosuke Hara discussed the game's background, main characters, and showcased the special moves of several Digimon featured in the game. Hara confirmed that players can choose from three starter Digimon at the game's outset: Patamon, Gomamon, and DemiDevimon, all beloved characters from the original Digimon Adventure anime. Time Stranger boasts an impressive roster of over 450 Digimon, including Angewomon, Gallantmon, and the fan-favorite Agumon, making it the largest in the series to date.
The game's narrative revolves around time travel, with players choosing between two protagonists, Dan Yuki and Kanan Yuki, who are secret agents for the organization ADAMAS. They work to uncover mysterious threats to both humans and Digimon. The main heroine, Inori Misono, and her partner Aegiomon, will join players on their journey through time.
The event also featured other exciting announcements, including a 25th Anniversary PV for the Digimon Anime, new starter decks and booster packs for the Digimon Trading Card Game, and a new anime series, Digimon Beatbreak, set to premiere in October 2025. With these developments, the Digimon franchise is poised for a vibrant future, and fans should keep an eye out for more updates throughout the year.
