How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

One of the initial challenges you'll encounter in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is the battle against Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans. Here's a detailed guide on how to defeat him effectively.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao’s First Phase

The first phase of the fight takes place in a vast wasteland, where you'll face Zhang Jiao in a one-on-one duel. He employs sorcery to hurl stones at you across the arena. When you're close, he summons four stones, which you need to dodge quickly. From a distance, he throws twice as many stones in sets of two, which you can evade by simply running around him. If you're caught near him during his stone summoning, it's crucial to create some distance to avoid taking significant damage from the barrage.

Zhang Jiao's attacks are designed to keep you at bay, but he also has some close-range moves. He performs basic combos that you can parry, and an Area of Effect (AOE) attack meant to push you away. Watch for him glowing white, which signals his AOE attack; retreat immediately to avoid damage.

As the fight progresses, he'll use moves that give him a red aura, indicating uncancellable attacks. These include summoning a large number of rocks to drop around him and creating several clones. The best strategy here is to back off until his attack finishes, then continue your assault. Ensure you're equipped with a sword, as it deals more damage compared to spears or gauntlets.

Keep an eye on your health throughout the fight. You'll likely have only four healing opportunities, depending on your upgraded skills. Remember, there are jars near the arena's entrance containing meat buns. Use these to heal by retreating to the entrance during lulls in Zhang Jiao's attacks.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao’s Second Phase

Once you unlock Musou Rage, the second phase begins, with Yellow Turbans joining Zhang Jiao. Fortunately, your army arrives to help, giving you some respite. This is an ideal time to heal by grabbing meat buns from the entrance. Be cautious of Zhang Jiao's tornados, which can disrupt your fight against his soldiers.

After defeating a sufficient number of soldiers, Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, requiring you to eliminate 300 soldiers within minutes to prevent a devastating attack. Complicating matters, he'll summon lightning to strike the arena. Keep an eye on the ground for closing rings that flash, signaling when to evade the lightning strikes. The most effective way to clear the soldiers quickly is by using Musou Mode, which, if timed correctly, can take out dozens at once. While you might have unlocked Musou Rage Mode, sticking to the basic Musou Mode is advisable given the time constraints.

After thwarting Zhang Jiao’s Grand Tactic twice, he'll return to the battlefield with tactics similar to Phase 1. With your army's support, it should be straightforward to deplete his remaining health, concluding Chapter 1.

And that's how you can successfully defeat Zhang Jiao in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*.

*Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
