"Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Redemptions"
During Sony's recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered caught the attention of many, but it has stirred up discontent among some PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the discounted upgrade to the PS5 version is exclusively available to those who own either the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, those who obtained the game through the PS Plus subscription service, including from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, do not qualify for this upgrade. This means PS Plus members will have to pay the full price of $49.99 to access the remastered version on PS5.
This decision has led to a wave of frustration among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online forums to voice their dissatisfaction. A notable thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit showcases comments from subscribers who express their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee but are now considering skipping the game altogether due to the full price requirement.
For instance, user squarejellyfish_ pointed out, "They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two." Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated, "They should let Essentials upgrade cause I would pay the $10, but I will not buy it any other way. I will stick with the one I got." Meanwhile, dredizzle99 remarked, "There's no way I'm paying full price for this, but I'd happily pay for the upgrade at least just to check it out. Surely the majority of people that have it on PS plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them."
Another user, jackanyon95, added, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base. I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."
While some PS Plus subscribers are unsurprised by Sony's decision, citing that the company likely conducted financial analyses to justify the restriction, others have labeled Sony as "stingy." These fans had hoped for a more generous approach from PlayStation, especially towards their loyal subscribers.
