Cyberpunk 2077 Takes 25% of Nintendo Switch 2 Space
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will require 64GB of storage on the Nintendo Switch 2. While this is notably smaller than the 100–110GB needed on Xbox or PlayStation 5, the 64GB footprint still takes up a significant 25% of the Switch 2's built-in 256GB storage.
Arriving alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will be sold both as a physical 64GB game card and as a digital download via the Nintendo eShop.
Nintendo recently clarified that some upcoming Switch 2 game cards will not actually hold the full game data, and will instead function as a download key. That does not apply to Cyberpunk 2077, however.
This raises another important question: how quickly will the Switch 2's internal storage fill up?
With 256GB of internal storage, the Switch 2 represents a major upgrade from the original Switch's 32GB capacity. However, early indications point to significantly larger game sizes for the new system.
As noted, Cyberpunk 2077 requires 64GB. To put that in perspective, one of the largest games on the original Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, occupied only 16GB. The Switch 2 version of that title, as well as other upcoming games such as the $80 Mario Kart World, are expected to demand substantially more storage space.
The clear answer is expandable storage. Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S support it, and the Switch family has always offered this option. But there's a notable change: while the original model accepted widely available microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards, the Switch 2 is restricted to the newer microSD Express format. This means your existing microSD cards will not be compatible, and more significantly, you'll need to purchase newer, and generally more expensive, memory cards.

These include 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($59.99), 512GB ($99.99), and 1TB ($199.99) options from brands like SanDisk and Lexar. Some of these models are already being purchased in high volume and are currently marked as "temporarily out of stock" on Amazon.
Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to release its own officially licensed memory cards. However, if past trends are any guide, these first-party cards are likely to be more expensive than equivalent third-party alternatives. It is also possible that more manufacturers will enter the microSD Express market now that the Switch 2 is generating demand, though it's too early to tell if this will lead to lower prices.
