With the much-anticipated March 2025 update for *Fields of Mistria*, fans can finally explore a romantic storyline with Caldarus, the enigmatic dragon character. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to unlock his romance questline, along with details on events and his gift preferences.

How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To embark on a romantic journey with Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. You'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing this offering, a dramatic cutscene unfolds where the Mines Priestess warns the farmer to leave or face being sealed. As your health depletes, Caldarus heroically intervenes, transforming into his human form and gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. This transformation allows you to interact and gift items to Caldarus, just like any other romanceable NPC in Mistria.

Post-Fire Seal, Caldarus resides exclusively in his temple within the Deep Woods. To access this area permanently, you'll need to utilize the Dragon’s Breath spell to unlock it on your map.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character in the March 2025 update, he starts with a heart level of six, which is the current cap. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events for Caldarus at this time, but future updates are expected to introduce more. For now, you can enjoy a few key cutscenes involving Caldarus. The initial one is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing the magic system and game mechanics. The second, and more significant, occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves you and reveals his human form before retreating to recover.

Following the update, you can also initiate a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, which occurs on Summer 28 in-game.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in *Fields of Mistria*, offering a chance to go on a date with any romanceable NPC who has at least four hearts. With Caldarus' fixed starting heart level of six, you're all set to attend with him. To secure your date, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterward to trigger a special cutscene. During the festival at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation, shares insights on the stars, and discusses the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. The conversation delves into existential topics about soul connections and the necessity of villains in stories, hinting at deeper lore.
