Sid Meier's Civilization VII: A VR Revolution on Meta Quest 3

Civilization VII (Civ VII) is making its VR debut this Spring 2025, exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets. This marks the franchise's first foray into virtual and mixed reality gaming.

Meta Quest 3 Exclusivity:

2K Games and Firaxis Games announced the exciting news during the Civ World Summit Event on February 8, 2025. Dennis Shirk, Executive Franchise Producer, expressed enthusiasm for this new era of strategy gaming. Chris Pruett, Meta's Director of Games, highlighted the strong momentum in mixed reality gaming, emphasizing Civ VII VR as a testament to this growth. While Civ VII is launching on various platforms, including PlayStation consoles, the VR version will remain exclusive to Meta's headsets.

Immersive Gameplay and Multiplayer:

Civ VII VR immerses players in a detailed "Command Table" environment, allowing them to strategically manage their empire from various perspectives. The game seamlessly transitions between virtual and mixed reality, offering flexibility in gameplay. The virtual reality mode transports players to a personalized museum vista, while mixed reality adapts the Command Table to the player's physical space.

Single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes are available, supporting up to four players using Meta Quest 3 or 3S headsets. Players can team up with friends or compete against human and AI opponents. Online multiplayer requires a 2K and Meta account.

Addressing Player Feedback:

Firaxis Games is actively addressing player feedback from the Civ VII early access period. The team is prioritizing UI improvements, focusing on intuitiveness, map readability, and overall polish. Community-requested features, such as team-based multiplayer and expanded map types, are also planned for future updates. A quality-of-life update is scheduled for March, including UI adjustments, AI balancing, diplomacy refinements, and bug fixes.

Civilization VII VR is slated for release this Spring 2025 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, with a specific date yet to be announced.
